They are counted as +1 for Free Spirit, Cerebral, Striker, STR, and DEX. For example, Vivi/ Rebecca is Free Spirit/Cerebral as Vivi, Cerebral/Striker as Rebecca and Cerebral/Striker as dual form, with their special only boosting the affinity of Cerebral/Striker. How strong a unit is nor how well their captain/special works with their classes/types are not counted. For example, Luffy/ Law would count as +1 for Fighter, Slasher, Free Spirit, Cerebral, DEX and QCK. I didn't want to double count that (especially cases like 6+ Usopp or Bullet, whose 6+'s were released essentially in the same time period and would "inflate" numbers), so after looking at various ways of presenting the data (including different time periods such as 6 months, including/excluding 6+), I concluded that the best way to present the "meta" is just from debut Legends.Įach Legend's classes and types are all counted once, including classes not part of the dual unit form. Furthermore, in the many situations where they are strict upgrades, counting them is merely rehashing the meta of more than a year in the past. Usually they are more of a patchwork solution for players who don't have the newest Legends to be able to use them as a friend captain. While some are meta changing (like Snakeman), they are the outliers, not the norm. The 12th was chosen because that is the Anniversary date of OPTC, which releases multiple Legends every year.Īs mentioned above, 6+ units are not included in the video. Well, that is until I decided to cut out the 6+ releases and only focused on the debut Legends. It didn't make sense to me to split them up, so they are both included as part of the period ending Jan 2020 in the video. For instance, 6+ Sabo was released on January 4th, 2020, but was clearly meant to be part of the same "meta" as Luffy/ Zoro and O-Soba Mask, who were released on December 27, 2019.
I was only able to track down the data download or announcement Reddit threads for the older ones and was unable to find the actual specific dates of release.Īs a result of many older Legends being released on the 1st of the month while newer Legends are released in the last few days of the month, as well as unclear dates for 6+ releases and newer 6+'s being released on the 4th of the month, each of the time periods in the video ends on the 12th of the month, not the last day. With 6+ release dates, unfortunately they get a little bit fuzzy.
With debut release dates, I was able to find pull videos on YouTube in which the dates were visible. I tracked down the release dates of every Legend and 6+ released.
With that in mind, I extracted the data and animated some graphs illustrating the meta making it look nice and pretty (and hopefully more digestible than what I normally write about). And man did it take a long time to track down all the Legend release dates - thx obscure Sugo pull videos from 2014!īut then another thought came to me - now that I have every single Legend release date, we could take a look at the "meta" of OPTC! We can take an interval of time (say 1 year cause it's nice and round), count the number of Legends released during that period of time, and see how "strong" each of the 5 types and 8 classes are! Now as it's fairly simplistic, this method is obviously not perfect. So at first, with 6th Anni coming up soon, I thought it would be nice to take a look at the history of OPTC. OK well I suppose I'll have scared most of you off, details below for the few stragglers who are still interested What?! A muffin post without 50 walls of numbers to confuse you?! Well here's some IMPORTANT LINKS for you to play around with! Nicely timed before V3 Aokiji and PvP releases. In anticipation of the 6th Anniversary of OPTC in May, I thought it would be nice to take a walk down history lane and see how the "meta" of OPTC has evolved over the years. Welcome!
